Phonics – ng

Dear grade 3 learners,
Today we are going to learn a new sound. It is the ‘ng’ sound. This sound is written at the end of a word.
Assignments for the day:
1. Reading words: Robin Hood – column 3 and 4
2. Phonics:
You need to learn the ‘ng’ words in your pink Phonics book on page 13 (number 21).
- Read the words by sounding out each letter.
- You can open the link to watch the Power Point of the ‘ng’ sound on YouTube. (It is optional.)
- Write these words down on a piece of paper.
- Ask an adult to give you 10 words to write down as a test.
Afterwards you can mark your test and give yourself a point out of 10.
3. Complete Task 2
You are going to use the new words that you learned to complete some sentences. Read the sentence after you’ve chosen the word.
Punctuation:
You use different punctuation marks in sentences:
full stop . = A full stop is used at the end of a sentence
e.g. Peter likes to ride on his bicycle.
comma , = A comma is used when you write down a list of things.
e.g. Apples, pears, bananas and grapes are my favourite fruits.
question mark ? = A question mark is used when you ask a question.
e.g. Do you like to swim?
exclamation mark ! = An exclamation mark is used to express excitement or to give a command.
e.g. Sit down! Help me!

- Practise your new phonics words. (ng)
- Write a phonics test of 10 words.
- Write the correct word in each sentence.
e.g. The bell ____________ at school every day.
The bell rings at school every day.
- Write 3 sentences using any 3 ‘ng’ words.
e.g. Spring is a lovely season.
