Today’s work is about adjectives. If you can remember, we did this last term. Let us revise the work before we begin with the adjective activities. The extra activities are not compulsory . . . If there is time, you can complete it.
ADJECTIVES TELL US MORE ABOUT THE NOUNS.
Adjectives describe what something looks like.
The elephants have big ears.
The dog is thinking about the juicy bone.

Look at these pictures and then fill in adjectives to describe them. Remember, adjectives are descriptive words. Use some of these words to help you.
Now underline each of the adjectives in these sentences. Circle the nouns they describe.
I am a very tall girl with short black hair. I live in a small house in a quiet street in Soweto.
My mother put bright blue bows in my long hair. Johannesburg has big houses and pretty gardens.

Activity 1:
Rewrite each sentence by adding adjectives to describe the underline nouns.
- The lion chased the zebra.
- The street was filled with cars and buses.
- The woman sat on the bench to rest.
- Carrie ate apples and drank lemonade.
- The boy won a bike in a contest.
Answers: Sentences will vary. Check for correct use of adjectives.
Activity 2:
Read each sentence. Circle the adjective that describe each underlined noun.
- The grey cat saw the shaggy dog sitting in the dark corner.
- The cat saw some cat food on the dog’s droopy mouth.
- The cat slipped out of the little kitchen and went into the quiet backyard.
- She started digging in the soft dirt under a shady tree.
- The dog looked out the enormous window and saw the cat with a large bone.
