Good morning Grade 6 learners

WOW, what a ride it has been so far…. Your Mom/Dad playing teacher-teacher, doing schoolwork in your pyjamas, having break time and eating your sandwiches whenever you like, playing with a toilet roll like its gold etc.

We should remember that this is a special time- spending time with family and creating new and exciting memories. I hope you are adhering to the rules by staying safe and looking after yourself!

I have attached the week’s work. You can divide the work according to your own planning (2 pages per day). If you want to focus on English for one entire day-you are more than welcome. This week we will focus on figures of speech. What is a figure of speech??? A figure of speech is a deviation from the ordinary use of words in order to increase their effectiveness. HUH??? Let’s take a step back…. Have you ever wondered why poets, journalists or writers say something in a different way than normal??? Example: “He is a lion.” What does it mean?? Exactly! He is comparing the person’s strength with the strength of a lion. Instead of saying “He is as strong as a lion.” He compared the two without using so many words. There are a lot of figures of speech, but we are only going to focus on a few. You would have seen a few of these words on page 13 of your yellow books. I have included the pronunciation in brackets. You can google the words and ask for the pronunciation if you want to.
