Nouns:
Explain what a noun is and discuss the different types of nouns including:
Common noun – Everything we can touch, e.g. pencil, boy, girl, desk etc. (can always make a plural)
Proper noun – Always written with a capital letter, names of places and things e.g. Sannie, Koos, Hartenbos
Abstract nouns – The things we cannot touch, feelings, emotions and ideas. e.g. love, hate, intelligence etc.
Collective nouns – A collection or group of nouns. e.g. pride of lions, school of fish etc.
Countable nouns – Nouns that can be counted, can put an article (a/an) in front of the noun. e.g. pen, desk etc.
Uncountable nouns – Nouns that cannot be counted, cannot put an article in front of the noun, e.g. sand, water etc.
Compound nouns – Nouns consisting of two words, e.g. sea+food=seafood, lock+down=lock down etc.
Complex nouns – Nouns in clauses or phrases, groups of words making a noun, e.g. The girl with the yellow dress won the spelling competition.
Gender – Nouns that specify a specific gender, e.g. male actor vs. female actress, male gentleman vs. female lady etc.
Complete activities, Nouns 1 and Nouns 2, on a separate piece of paper. After completion do corrections using the provided memorandums.
